Acupuncture Frequently Asked Questions
Acupuncture appointments at Sweet Momma can be scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. Your initial session is one hour, with each following appointment being 30 minutes. Our Sweet Momma Registered Acupuncturists, Genevieve, R.Ac., and Chung, R.Ac., are also available for 15-minute consultations, free of charge, in order for you to ask questions or gain more information about our acupuncture programs. Q. Does it hurt? No, the needles used for acupuncture are very fine, much thinner than those used for medical injections. The characteristic sensation is a dull ache or a mild tingle, with many people finding the treatments very relaxing and rejuvenating. Q. How many treatments will I need? Treatment periods are specific to individuals, as well as the goals each are trying to accomplish with acupuncture. Sweet Momma registered acupuncturists generally recommend weekly acupuncture treatments to help optimize fertility for both women and men. The course of treatment varies based on the nature of an individual’s condition, where results can be seen in one to six months. For women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, it is recommended that treatments begin once or twice a week, one to two months before the transfer. Many women continue acupuncture treatments until they are through the first trimester to prevent miscarriage. For prenatal acupuncture, Sweet Momma R.Ac’s recommend beginning treatment one to one and a half months before the due date, with appointments booked once or twice a week. In preparing for birth, a minimum of eight treatments before the scheduled due date is optimal in order to reduce labour times, the use of medical interventions during delivery and birth anxiety. Postnatal acupuncture treatments are safe to begin immediately after birth. As with pre-conception acupuncture, depending on client-specific conditions, treatment periods will vary.
